THE DRIVE HOME
Earlier this year I signed up for the Print Exchange 2013.
500 printmakers from around the world were asked to interpret the theme “The Drive Home” and produce an edition of 12, 5″x7″ prints using any method of printmaking. Two of the prints will be kept for exhibition and archive purposes while the remaining ten will be distributed amongst various participants. The Art House Co-op have begun sorting through the thousands of prints arriving in the mail and they look amazing.
Here is a peek at my submission. It started out as a linocut but I decided that it looked better embossed onto the paper.
I can’t wait to receive my bundle of ten prints in return. I wonder which artists and continents they will come from?
The embossing is lovely ๐
Thank you. Sometimes subtle is best ๐
What a gorgeous challenge, I love that you will get a surprise bundle…perhaps you’ll share it with us? Oh and I love your embossed paper ๐
I will definitely share ๐
So beautiful. I love the simplicity of paper. And what a great idea for collaboration.
Talking of paper I’ve been trying to track down some samples papyrus paper that they make here in Sicily, Syracuse to be precise. I sure it would be beautiful to have an example of the same paper that was used for the Dead Sea scrolls. But paper making is a dying art …
I know! I love paper. Hopefully digital doesn’t take over. My brother and his wife bought a beautifully printed piece of papyrus when they were in Egypt a few years ago.
omg i love embossed! what tools did you use?
I used the lino I carved but instead of inking it up I left blank and printed it onto damp paper.
Wow cool! Yeah I love print stuff too! I just got a cuttlebug so I will be making some embossings ๐
Very beautiful. I’ve always thought white embossing was so classy. ๐
thank you ๐ I think so too, I just hope they weren’t flattened when they were mailed out.

as I am taking my first printmaking class this semester I am looking at prints, printmakers, and different printmaking techniques to better prepare myself for the semester ahead. I thought this was an interesting take on the theme and the paper is just lovely. Cannot wait to see her post on what she receives in return.
simplicity always comes from clean design.
