Hello 2015! Hello blogland! And hello little blog, I’ve missed spending time with you! Picturette was a bit neglected last year, mainly due to finishing university and other projects. In an effort to rectify that I have decided to start a new weekly project. If you have been following Picturette for a while you might recall my weekly illustration posts from a couple of years back. They really helped my creativity and meant I was posting regularly. So my new blogging challenge is going to be about pattern! I am going to post a pattern a week and as we are already 3 weeks into the year, I will be playing catch-up for the next few days. So here it is, my first pattern play!

HelloPetal_pleasevote

I have long been a fan of pattern and textile design, recently I was inspired to begin experimenting with illustrated patterns of my own. I even entered one of my designs into a competition. The lovely ladies from Frankie and Swiss Boutique Textile Company are holding a design competition as part of Craft Cubed. And this is where I need your help, one of the categories is decided by the public, so if you like my design and have a few seconds to spare you can cast your vote here by clicking the like button. The winner will be announced at The Frankie and Swiss Open Studio on the 23rd of August, that’s this weekend! There are some truly beautiful designs in the running so it is well worth checking out the rest of the entries.

Thanks for reading (and voting 😉 )

In light of my recent tweet to post more regularly I thought that I had better stop thinking about it and actually post something! I haven’t been drawing as much as I would like lately and keep promising myself that I will  but before i know it my days seem to be gobbled up with assignments, appointments and various other distractions. So I dug through my archives and came across these little illustrations, I drew them for a possible magazine feature that never eventuated. I thought that they were too pretty not to see the light of day so here they are. And here’s hoping I manage to put pencil to paper more often! 🙂

Gosh! It feels like I haven’t posted anything in ages. With family in town and university starting again I have been struggling to settle into a routine. And since I completed 52 Fridays I haven’t felt much of an urge to pick up a pencil—except for the illustration above. A good friend of mine celebrated 5 years of marriage recently and she asked me to draw a little portrait of her and her husband. Happy anniversary you two! Perhaps this could be the start of a new project? Portraits maybe? Monthly mugshots?

Yay! I can finally share with you a project I have recently finished. Late last year I was contacted by Metro Screen, an independent screen learning and development hub in NSW, they wondered if I would be interested in illustrating a pattern that they could use on their website, across social media and in print. Are you kidding? I would love to. So here it is. It is already being used online but I think that I am most excited about seeing it printed on posters, stationery and other promotional material. Metro Screen also made a little video of me working on this project. I find it harder to work when someone is watching me so it took a bit of convincing for me to agree to this. I am so used to be being behind a camera that it I wasn’t sure I wanted to be in front it! I have been rather anonymous on my blog until now, so I am little nervous showing this, but here goes.

P.S. concentration faces are funny!
