This week I have been printing cards for the Etsy Christmas pop-up in Sydney. It was also a friend’s first wedding anniversary recently and as the traditional gift for a first anniversary is paper, I decided to use one of the designs from my cards and alter it to make print that could be framed. The print is of two geometric hearts printed in copper and is part of a limited edition of 10 prints. I have listed the rest of the prints in my Etsy store if you would like one for yourself or somebody special. Happy Friday everyone 🙂
Thursday evening was the official opening of The Charming Collective annual show. Print makers and art lovers came together to celebrate printmaking and view work by Nic Bailey, Simon Clarke, Rebecca Geddes, Laura Giamo, Jessica Hodgkinson, Ian Kingsford Smith, Gabrielle Mordy, Sam Newton, David Quoy, Marnie Ross, Anna Russell, Cam Scott and myself.
The Charming Collective would like to thank Art Est. Art School and Gallery for their support. Rebecca Geddes and Mahani Del Borrello would like to acknowledge ARC @ UNSW for their support via an Art and Design Grant.
I was having a clean up the other day and came across some prints I started a while ago that I never finished. Do you remember the Christmas cards I made last year? Well I used one of the designs to screenprint some larger prints, but they kind of sat there for a while and I wasn’t sure what to with them and I lost interest (or inspiration). So, sitting at home on a rainy Sydney Saturday and with Christmas around the corner I decided to chop them up and make some more cards. It seems this design was always destined to be festive. I hope you are also having a crafty and creative weekend 🙂
Earlier this year I signed up for the Print Exchange 2013.
500 printmakers from around the world were asked to interpret the theme “The Drive Home” and produce an edition of 12, 5″x7″ prints using any method of printmaking. Two of the prints will be kept for exhibition and archive purposes while the remaining ten will be distributed amongst various participants. The Art House Co-op have begun sorting through the thousands of prints arriving in the mail and they look amazing.
Here is a peek at my submission. It started out as a linocut but I decided that it looked better embossed onto the paper.
I can’t wait to receive my bundle of ten prints in return. I wonder which artists and continents they will come from?
Mini gift cards!
One thing I struggle with is writing messages in cards. I sit for ages wondering what to write. I decided the best way around this is to give smaller cards! If you suffer the same affliction as me or are searching for some cute and quirky, handmade gift cards, they are available here. 🙂
